Fishing method

The double Paternoster rig can be fished whilst holding onto the fishing outfit and also works well when set into a holder. It is extremely productive for casting long distance or fishing deeper water for a variety of small to medium sized species.  Simply cast or drop the baited rig into the desired location, wait until it settles onto the sea floor and wait for a bite. Always remember to wait until the fish has your bait securely before striking! Small to medium sized three way swivels may also be used in place of dropper loops for added strength although bulky terminal tackle can often spook fussy species.

Terminal tackle used

Swivel – Small size 8 to medium sized 2 rolling, barrel or crane.

Top hook – Small sized 4 to medium sized 4/0 ganged hooks 4 per set.

Bottom hook – Small to medium sized 8 – 2/0 suicide, long shank or bait holder.

Leader – Nylon or fluoro carbon 20 – 60lb breaking strain.

Sinker – As light as conditions allow, size 1 – 12 snapper or tear drop.

Depth range

0 – 30 meters.
