The lure jigging, casting and trolling rig is designed to present artificial lures to fish in the most appealing and natural fashion possible and will account for a large number of species in most offshore environments. Lure choice and retrieval is a key factor when jigging, casting and trolling lures offshore in Australia!
Main lines – Nylon or braided 4 – 30lb breaking strain.
Leaders – Fluoro carbon 4 – 80lb breaking strain joined to main line with Albrite or Tony Jones knot.
Lures – Metal jigs and slices, hard bodied, soft plastic, marabou jig, prawn style jig, surface and sub surface.
Clips – Ultra small, light lures should be attached to leaders with a loop knot to allow maximum movement and larger lures may be connected with the use of a wire snap or clip. The clip should be slightly smaller than the head of the lure used!
Swivels – Swivels are a must to eliminate line twist when trolling or casting spinning, metal lures. When casting connect a small, swivel to the split ring at the front of the lure and when trolling one or even two small swivels should be connected to the leader around 3” – 4” apart 12” from the lure.
