Fishing method

The single Paternoster rig is designed to target a variety of species within a moderate casting distance from shore. Simply cast the baited rig out into the desired location, wait until it settles onto the sea floor and wait for a fish to come calling. Larger, heavier fishing outfits may be placed into secured rod holders for convenience in between takes. Lighter versions of this rig may also be constructed with smaller terminal tackle and lighter leader lines and make excellent rigs for targeting a variety of small to mid sized beach and rock species. Always remember to wait until the fish has your bait securely before striking!

Terminal tackle used

Swivel – Medium size 8 to large sized 2 three way or cross line.

Hook – Medium sized 3/0 to large sized 8/0 suicide, ganged, long shank or bait holder.

Hook Leader – Nylon, light wire or fluoro carbon 40 – 80lb breaking strain.

Sinker leader – The sinker leader should be lighter in breaking strain than the hook leader in case of snagging.

Sinker – As light as conditions allow size 4 – 6 star, spoon or snapper.

Casting distance

20 – 80 meters, this rig casts best with smaller, lighter baits.
